I have a machine that is running vista home pro, and it has onboard Realtek HD sound.  Not a big deal until I went to play COD2 and COD2 crashes.  So still not a big deal I had an old soundblaster live card that I slapped in, oh wait vista doesn't support the card and neither does creative.   I found a driver that works but the issue now is that I can't get the full use out of the card, such as TS or Mumble.  So basically I have a nice machine with no way to do ts or mumble. 

All that to ask, What Sound cards would you guys recommend that are affordable and descent?  I am a mid range computer guy, best bang for the buck kind of thing.  Keep in mind it has to work with Vista and my wife can't notice a lot of money missing from the account

Or you could use the Kx Drivers for the Soundblaster Live ..... they work in Vista!
They are far better than Creative drivers anyway ..... you can get them here:

The only thing wrong with the Kx drivers is they don't support EAX.

Ok mate, you said on Xfire you tried the Kx drivers and couldn't get them to work.

Try this older version:

If these do not work try going to:
http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=Files&go=cat&dwn_cat_id=20
And download the Creative Modded Driver and install using Win XP Compatibility Mode.

Hopefully one of these will work.

ok dude if your only problem is TS and mumble, buy a USB sound card.  It can be as cheap as $5 (with shipping on ebay).  It is like a USB storage drive, but has microphone and headphone jack. The way i have my sound setup is, on-board sound card output goes to big ass 5.1 surround, and then my USB soundcard is setup with my headset, so the MUMBLE sound goes just to the headset and not my surround sound.

Im not too sure if these will work with VISTA, but its cheap enuf for a try.
