cd dvd drives will not work

they will not pick up and read cds dvds or anything. does this with different drives no matter what. i replaced the ide cable and nothing. someone said mybe my motherboard but how can i prove this or disprove its my mobo

yes is shows up and all but if i put a dvd in it will freeze up my hardware page.

haha funny guy . i can put any drive in there and it does this so its not the drive.
