Windows XP Problem!!! Spyware, Virus ... Maybe!!
« on: October 14, 2007, 05:14:39 PM »
On my Task Manager I have the process IEXPLORE.EXE (I know this is Internet Explorer .... but I don't have this running) - If I End Task it will kill it then it will reappear in about 2 seconds!!!

I have searched my PC for IEXPLORE.EXE and I only have one ... at the usual place of C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer

I even tried moving this file but a new one just appears in this folder!!

I have searched the net for this problem but I have found nothing that helps.

I have scanned using:

Nod32 Antivirus
AdAware
AVG Anti-Spyware
Spybot S&D
MS Malicious Software Tool
Trojan Hunter

But alas ... NOTHING is found!!!

I also have SpywareBlaster.

I have checked Services but nothing in there that shouldn't be running .... also checked startup programs but again nothing in there that shouldn't be running!!!!

Anyone have any ideas whats going on ..... I am pulling my hair out!!!

What version of IE do you have ?
If you have 7, uninstall it using :
%windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe    (put that in start >> run)
If you have 6, you cant try to repair it using this:
rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"
or just get updates and install IE 7.

I don't really think its a spyware/virus issue, otherwise one of those tests you ran would have caught it.
Try those two things, if you have a registry / corrupt files issue that shud fix it.

Error loading setupwbv.dll
The specified module could not be found.

yeah its giving me that error to, i got that command from Microsoft knowledge base so i don't know why it wont work.
Anyway try upgrading to IE7 using windows updates then, make sure it installs everything properly.

you can try to uninstall IE 6 then:
go to add/remove programs, on the left select add/remove windows components.  Uncheck Internet Explorer, and then click next.
Reboot if it tells you too, then see if you still have the problem.

vista

Not yet anyway .... already got my hard drive split into 3 partitions ready for a dual boot:
1 for XP Pro
1 for Vista
1 for Games etc....

Just need to get round to installing Vista even though I hate it (well the home version anyway - my mate has it and it is a nightmare!).

I will be getting the Ultimate version ..... hopefully it is better than the Home version!

This is your problem >>>>>> spyware ......

There is a file called .... whatever.exe somewhere in your system32 folder >> it's not easy to find it's exact name ...
The infection manages that it shows up as iexplore.exe in your taskmanager as it isn't it ! ! !

Solution ...
Silly trick ... when you try to close it ... it will restart in about 2 .. 3 secods, depending on your computer speed ...
When it restart, it will show you for about 1 second or less it's original name .... it might be with signs on it >> try to catch it ...
If you got the original name of it do a search in your C drive and you'll find it somewhere ....

Restart your computer in Safe Mode ... the windows will NOT start any spyware ...
seach the file & delete it ... when you restart the windows in normal mode it'll be gone ....

Now the easy solution ....
www.hitman.nl
It's an application that uses several other anti spyware programs to check your computer ....
Do a full test, it might last an hour or longer but it will be helpfull !!!

What you can do aswell, scan your computer with http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
It's a good antivirus program >> it's online so you don't have to download anything :)

I'm 100% sure it's a spyware or troyan something in that kind ... but there is a solution for it  !

It's ok Baim - I fixed it. It wasn't the one you were on about it was something else.

Before I fixed it I tried trendmicro but it didn't find it .... in fact Nod32, TrendMicro, Panda, Adaware and Spybot didn't find anything!!!

This is what I had:
http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/trojtofgerbg.html

The only thing that fixed it was a program called UnHackMe ..... A great little program I must add! ;)
