Its the Commodore Pet 20 these are the computers we used at school when i was in elementary school then we eventually got ICON computers based on UNIX. here is a pic of that below the ICON (only in Canadian schools I believe)

the most popular learning game on the ICON was Math Maze Wizard if I remembered the name right lol basically the game gave you math problems via the wizard, and when you get them right you progress through the maze.

Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: werth on November 23, 2007, 12:07:28 PM
um its fine.. it depends.. its important to get a quality one rather than alot... but TT is good :)... depends what u have running too.. if you have sli or crossfie you need more power... i have 3 hard drives, 1 dvd drive, and one low-power video card so 550 is plenty.. if i were to add 2 or 3 more hard drives,, and another card maybe, i would prob need more

truth is.. secret to lower temps.... canadian maple syrup between the heatsink and chip

Well i got extremely bored and tryed the maple syrup between the HSF and an old celeron chip, and well lets just say the mobo didnt like the syrup dripping, and it really didnt drop the temps, kinda made them rise. Go figure.

Anyways my rig, not finished yet, Ill post pics once everything is in and up and runnin.

AMD 64 X2 4000 AM2
ASRock AliveNF6G Vista mobo, sold the Asus mobo, because i wanted to build a SFF system.
2 gigs Gskill DDR2 800
6600Gt WOOT!  >:( Sent my 3850 back for a 3850 512mb version

Coming:
Microfly SFF case
Powercolor 3850 512 with orb cooler
Some other crap like UV/or CC tubes, shrink tubing.

not bad for roughly $350-$370

Now just waiting for my blue cable sleeves, Blue CC's and my damn HD3850. Then Im gonna do a fresh install of windows and finally play some damn games. Lol feels like im withdrawling, I started twitching for some reason today..  ???

I got the grit paper from canadian tire in the car paint section. I used my smooth table surface to lap it down... took me around 4 hours its seriously tiring work :(

I wrote a guide on it too which can be found here: http://www.hardmart.com/forums/showthread.php/cpu-lapping-guide-276/index.html

you mean stable enough to pass the 3 min Orthos? ;)  seriously, i ran orthos for 5 mins stable but temps do get close to 70c so I didn't bother to run it for longer than that.  Outside of the torture test it idles around 34c and on load around 66C.  Guess it's time to switch to water soon.  Did you settle on 4.6?

Good job mang!  I had to cut a few holes under the mobo and on the side of the HD trays.  I also used the xtremesystems thread as a guide, but I did the HD mod a little differently.

The 45nm chips use less voltage.. i needed 1.5v to run my e6850 @4GHz
What kind of temps do you get running @ 1.535v?

It idles at low 30s Celsius and mid 60s when Orthos small ffts,I do have C1E enabled.all fans are on low.
Try point your Ultra 120 up towards the 200mm top fan if it will fit on your mobo,I think this might help the air flow and lower your temp a bit more,by the way your cuts on the case is like factory made, super job on your 900! :)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.aspx?Image=35-109-131-02.jpg%2c35-109-131-03.jpg%2c35-109-131-04.jpg%2c35-109-131-05.jpg%2c35-109-131-06.jpg&S7ImageFlag=0&WaterMark=1&Item=N82E16835109131&Depa=1&Description=Thermalright+HR-05-SLI+Heatsinks+only

But I cant find it anywhere. Anyone know where I can get an offset NB cooler for a 939 DFI Lan party MB?
Remeber the 8800's are double wide so it needs to offset quite a bit. I have the 2 holes on eather side of the chip so thats the attachment method

Ok we have total 100% complete success with the new instalation, well not really. Every once in a while I get a BSOD about my video driver, danm fucking drivers can kiss my ass. They never work as intended.

I mananaged to find an offset thermalright off set NB cooler, it can take a 70mm fan but im running passive and its around 55-60 so thats all set.

http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/chipset/hr05_sli/product_chitset_cooler_hr05_sli.html?art=MTQyMywxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==

Also got both the 8800GTS' running in a stable SLI, CPU OC'ed from 2.2==>2.5    For somereason 2.6 wasnt 100% stable and I dont have the cooling to currently give it any more volts than I already am.
Memory is OC'ed (of course) to DDR 474.

Passed running superPI+Prime95+ATI Tool artifact scanner. Yes at the same time.

Got a little toasty in here tho, had to open the window. the back of my case is a freaking space heater.

I guess I could get my ass in gear and give you guys pictures of it but im lazy nor do I really know how to do that sort of stuff..... Oh pulled a 44k+ in 3dMARK03. I dont know about any of the other ones never ran them.

I suggest buying a PC Power and Cooling powersupply if you wanted to run something like this, It pulls insaine amps. I personally went with the model that gives 49A down a single 12v rail. cost 200 bucks but hey 'got juice?'

Til we meet again and im not so sick or stoned. ~Yrch

ok guys ive got a question about aesthetics now, as you can see, i made some changes to my case. first, if you look very carefully at the 80mm LED side fan theres a funnel directing air to the CPU, this dropped my CPU temps 5 degrees C. Secondly, i added a 120mm LED fan to the exhaust. it pushes more air than my previous cooler master fan, 79 CFM compared to 49 CFM. its RPM is 2000 and the previous is 1500. do you think the LED exhaust looks better in the back where it can be seen or will it serve more purpose in the front. i also think that 1 LED on the side is enough since 2 is distracting. here are some more pics of my computer area and notice the -NO.BS- website =D. also my friend sold me a very schnazzy logitech elite black keyboard for $5! its better than my old generic dell keyboard, bleh. now i need new speakers. but yea, tell me what you think i should do about the fan placements.

Do the math on the cfm that you have in/out you want the out to be higher than the in. the worst possible thing that you can have happen is too much in causeing a hot spot vortex somewhere in your case and frying something, most likely something on your MB. Than again my shit is overclocked and I heat my room with my computer so who knows, thats my personal opionion... ~Yrch

Biostar TForce 550 SE (Ancient POS really...)
AMD AM2 X2 3800 @ 220x12 (damn motherboard doesn't like to overclock much, and the processor won't stay stable above 225ish...)
1GB (Dual Channel) Corsair DDR2 800 (Even though my motherboard will never let me keep it at DDR 800 because it sucks...)
Nvidia Geforce 8600GTS (No OC right now, even though i usually bump it up a little bit)
Western Digital SATA 160GB for games, music, etc.
Maxtor IDE 300GB for storage for game isos, movies, etc.
Basic ass case with 3 80mm.. uhh... i believe 75CFM fans.
Viewsonic 19in Widescreen Monitor

All in all, solid comp, can play CoD 2 1440x900 with everything high, no video card goodies on and get between 40-80 fps depending on the map.
Can play CoD 4 in 1280x720 with everything medium-high and get 30-60 fps depending on the map.

Probably gonna upgrade the mobo soon, and when i do, i'm going intel so i'll be getting a new proc too.

most i dont need, but what i heard off is that intel is working on somekind of update/patch(dont now exactly what) for dual&quad core's, so that the whole processor can work ass 1 instead off 2 or 4 cores, and then 8 gigs comes in handy!!! also i dont now when!!!

Rofl Indy

Who knows, he might have scammed you, but 8 gigs comes in handy with CoD, thats for sure. Friggin take up a whole gig, wtf wrong with IW, sounds must had coded the game to use extreme amounts of ram for no purpose just to make ppl mad :)
Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: vonDuTch on August 22, 2008, 10:47:15 AM
tru, i dont need that much, but my graphics card is fast enough, so i thought WTH, maybe i'll need it next year, end instead of buying 4 x 1gig, i have 4 x 2gig, cause otherwise i would have to buy 4 new chips of ram, and it can always come in handy!! ! LOL

Sounds like von dutch got sucka'd into buying 8 gigs of ram when he really doesnt need that much hahaha.

Watch, we're all gonna be screwed next year because we only have *four* gigs of ram instead of eight. :)
Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: vonDuTch on August 22, 2008, 01:29:35 PM
thats what i thought!! i'm thinking that next year you need 6 or 8 gigs instead of 4, who nows, maybe with games, windows or w/e!!!

I think that with a ammount of ram a AMD processor will be happy because of the integrated memory controller, on intel you wont notice so much diference.
just on nehalem.

Post by: vonDuTch on September 14, 2009, 01:41:06 PM
xp only shows 3 gigs, and it dosnt allow you to use your 4 gigs, so thats why xp sucks, and even with vista if you want to use your 4 gigs you need a 64bit version cus the 32bit is the same as xp, it shows 3 gigs
Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: werth on September 14, 2009, 04:06:02 PM
xp32 only shows ~3, same thing with vista, and same thing with windows 7. it doesnt have anything to do with the OS, it has to do with which version, 32bit or 64bit.. you can get windows XP 64bit and have as much ram as you want, hell you can put 64GB if you want.

same thing with windows 7, if you only get 32bit youre only gonna get ~3.25GB ram.... just upgrade to win 7 64 bit and use 2GB, no need to buy more

Title: Re: Post your rig's

You don't NEED 64 bit apps .. program files are seperated into two folders: Program Files and Program Files(x86) .. being 64-bit and 32-bit respectively. So 32 bit apps get installed in Program Files(x86) and run perfectly. At this point it is near impossible NOT to find 64 bit drivers ... unless you have hardware from a fucking museum. Get with the times! 3 GB limit on a 32bit OS is ridiculous.

Here are some pics (shitty from iphone) of my rig after i made some changes.  I havent changed it much since i last posted.  all the new spec are in my sig now.  upgraded from my e8400 to the q9400.  its not as overclockable but way better for multitasking.  put some more ram in it.  got a second 4850, and put aftermarket coolers on them cause the old ones the bearings went out on.  had to get a new power supply, due to the old one burning up.  went from my 320gb seagate to 2 wdblue 500gb raid 0.

Thanks man.  Temps for the CPU ~34C idle / ~65C load, GPU ~30C idle / ~45C load, VRM ~35C idle / ~50C load.

The case I bought after the price drop (actually smitty told me about it).  Not the best case as far as cable management goes but it's all aluminum, massive and I didn't have to do much to set up the two loops inside.

It runs about the same as any high end air cooler.  It tops out on Prime 95 at around 72 at 4.17Ghz when setup in Push/Pull idles around mid 30's.  I am still fooling with it because I think the way I have the push/pull setup is costing me a few degrees.  I have reseated it once already because was expecting a little better performance and one core reads 6C higher than the rest for some reason.  Reseating didn't change anything so apparently my first attempt was okay.  Am going to try a Noctua in it and see if that works better.  Still messing around with some to get the final setup working optimally and then going to see what it ends up with at stable overclock.  Thats all the fun though!

simple solution for more air flow..... cut the grate or mesh off the back of the case that is over the fan blades :P

Yes, well what a pain sleeving is.  Most people were saying its about 5 to 6 hours to sleeve a PSU.  I must be all thumbs because it took me closer to 20 although the sleeving I was using for it was odd and didn't help much.  But it looks good now!   :P

Do you see any bare wires in that picture?  :o (actually the Sata connection to the CD is not sleeved, probably get around to that soon too).  Sleeving is used to make all the cables look uniform and not such a jumbled mess of red/yellow/black only it is pretty labour intensive since you have to take off the connectors and such.
Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: Evilgenius on May 30, 2010, 12:20:25 AM
did you cut out the mesh on your case like i said lol   seriously will get way more air flow
Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: Rasparthe on May 30, 2010, 12:26:08 AM
No I haven't, the mesh seems pretty minimal it pushed out from the back plate so that the air flow isn't as restricted.  First going to try the other options and see what happens.  I think that because I'm using too different fans on the push pull the difference in RPM and air push is causing turbulence in the rad and loosing the smooth flow through the system.  Going to try with two exact same fans and see if that improves at all.

Wow looks great!  I really need to do some watercooling I think.  No time right now and I think I would need a bigger case.  Those V8 temps seem ridiculous high you keeping that thing in the oven?  Your new ones are great though.  What kind of rad is that?
Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: pcgamer on June 02, 2010, 12:34:49 PM
The V8 was doing just fine in winter but as soon as summer hit the cpu was idling at 50 C even with my 5000 BTU AC on. As for the radiator it's the Swiftech MCR220 Quiet Power.

Nice hardware, PC! (I have the same rad cooling the 5970 :)) And the XT is one of the top 5 performing blocks right now.
Looking forward to some hi-res pics.
Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: pcgamer on June 03, 2010, 03:40:38 PM
Thanks man, did a fair bit of research before buying all the parts. Damn your 5970 must run really cool! My 5870 is burning at 85 degrees under full load with 27% fan. I really need to cool it somehow. I was thinking of air cooling specifically this one: http://www.arctic-cooling.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_&mID=546 but it's still not released yet :(. Do you have experience with any other coolers? I don

cant you just turn your fan up?
Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: KU@TO on June 03, 2010, 09:41:04 PM
@PC

I bought the 5970 used already with the full block.  Even though it's not one of the best designed blocks it still keeps the temps nice and cool, mainly because it's on a separate loop.

My guess is that accelero will be one of the best solutions for air cooling the 5870.  If you decide to run the i7 and the 5870 on the same loop your radiator will be getting a little heat soaked at full load.  Your temps won't be terrible, but you'd do much better with a 120x3 or 120x4.

If you want to do cheap wc, you can look on ebay and maybe score a used full block for about half retail.  A more flexible solution would be to install a MCW60 and add a heat sink like this http://www.swiftnets.com/products/HD5800%20HEATSINK%20SERIES.asp for the ram & vrm.  The MCW60 is a great little block and it fits almost every card out there.  That's what I was using on my old 4870 and still have it in a box somewhere.
Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: pcgamer on June 04, 2010, 06:25:35 PM
Sell me your 5970 lol i'll give you my 5870 + cash :D

Yeah just 120x2 isn't enough for i7 + good GPU. If I end up getting WC for the GPU I will probably add another one of those radiators inside the case.

So today I fucked up haha!  I have my reservoir mounted in the 5.25" and while trying to pull out the dust filter I pulled on the tube a little which caused a leak. I saw one drop on the north bridge heatsink so I wrapped everything with tissue paper and pulled the plug on the computer. I had to drain the whole system, remount the reservoir and now in the process of bleeding all over again =( fml. Hopefully everything still works *fingers crossed*
Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: KU@TO on June 04, 2010, 06:42:00 PM
lol, I'd like to say I've never been there but I would be lying  ;)

As far as I know, that HidrX (assuming that's what you're using) doesn't gain conductivity till about a week's use.  Sill it would only be partially conductive so I doubt you damaged anything.

Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: Rasparthe on June 05, 2010, 01:24:29 PM
ouch!  Number one reason why I still hesitate to set up a WC system although I so want to do it.  Good luck!
Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: pcgamer on June 05, 2010, 02:04:30 PM
Phew everything is fine .. I installed the clips tightly and moved the reservoir to a more solid location.

@Rasp: Don't get discouraged by it dude. It is really easy to set it up. Just don't do stupid stuff like me lol

@Kuato: i was serious lol if you need to sell that 5970 anytime soon let me know so I dont go out and spend a fortune on a new one + block
Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: KU@TO on June 06, 2010, 03:30:07 PM
I don't see myself upgrading any time soon, but if anything changes I'll let you know.  As far as adding a vc to your loop, check out this bench which has a very similar setup as yours: (i7 920 @4095 Mhz, 1.424v, XT Block, MCR320 (120x3) Rad.)

Looks like the impact on temps of adding a vc to the cpu loop is not as much as I originally thought.
Title: Re: Post your rig's
Post by: pcgamer on June 08, 2010, 06:11:09 PM
That can't be right :/ I read on countless forums that adding a high end gpu on i7 on a dual 120 rad would heat up way too much. I just turned on turbo boost to get x21 multiplier and now running 4.2GHz .. this raised the temps a bit more 40/67 so a gpu in this loop wouldn't be ideal IMO. I gotta do more research on what that chart is trying to get to.

btw HQ pics of the rig :D
