you can change it, there is a flex jack, and you can make the the difital out, i think. Plus i dont think you can get 5.1 from ditial out.

yea you can.. maybe not 5.1 to computer speakers.. but 5.1 to a home theatre.  i have optical out to my 5.1 home theatre.. but i dont really use it too loud in the house and with ts...
