XTX GeForce 8400GS DDR2 512MB
« on: June 07, 2008, 08:50:27 PM »
Stock settings (450/1200/266) with this media card can run CoD4 at 800x600, no AA, textures default, 60Hz at around 20-50 FPS.

My current work in progress:

(550/1466/310) @ 1024x768, no AA, textures default, 60Hz at between 60-100 FPS.  And added a 80mm fan blowing air from outside my case directly on my card.

Temp difference between stock and OC'ed w/extra fan: -5C at max(stock max load temp was 67, current max load temp 62)

If anyone else played around with the setting of this card and has anything to help me OC, I'd be more than happy to try it.  I'll keep you guys updated with any new developments on this.

i have an "XFX" 8600 GT xxx edition overclocked from 620mhz core to 720mhz and 800mhz memory to 850mhz (i think maybe you take 850x2 to find the effective frequency). Runs pretty stable, will freeze in games every once in a while(probably has to do with the fact that its in a 1600x1200 resolution). You should get ATI tool to scan for artifacts for about 20 minutes, if it can run 20 minutes without error up the core about 5-10mhz. after you find the limit crank it down about 5mhz and do the same for your memory.
you can get it here http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/

Thanks man, I'll check it out, currently I'm using rivatuner, 3D Mark 2k3(read it stressed the system more than newer version so it tests stability as well) and Speedfan to monitor the temps.

EDIT: I tried it for 10 mins and my card temp never rose above 56C, 5 mins of CoD4 raises it to 62, which shows there is more stress on my card, and the 3D mark 2k3 during the test rose it to max load temp as well.  Not saying your wrong, just pointing out that this program doesn't seem to max the load of my card.

are you clicking "scan for artifacts" button, or just watching it spin the cube. scanning for artifacts puts alot of stress ony my card. more than any of my games can do.
