Title: E2180 Overclock
Post by: DriveRaider on April 21, 2008, 12:47:34 PM
ok guys, i think im ready to oc my CPU. i know smitty had an e2180 so he will have some helpful advice for overclocking. this is my first time OC'ing my cpu and im a bit worried. i have nvidia ntune and i was wondering if i could just increase the FSB from within that. how far should i go? how much voltage should i increase my CPU. can i just run the Ntune auto tune feature that will automatically overclock my CPU? i read somewhere that increase vcore above 10% of the default could fry your cpu. thanks for any helpful advice! also, im a bit confused of how the CPU is overclocked. i know you have to increase the FSB or CPU multiplier. FSBxCPUM=core clock speed, but how does that relate with the ram? does oc'ing your CPU oc your ram as well? thanks guys.

what board is it?

dont use ntune, do everything in the bios
make sure pci-e is at 100mhz
leave vcore on stock
increase the fsb a little.. the cpu should oc quite a bit on stock voltage
if you bsod or cant post, increase the vcore a little and try again
keep an eye on temps (not sure about that chip, but try to keep it under 60 load)
probably ok to leave NB at default, and leave the memory at 1:1 prob

^^Good advice.

Here's a detailed guide for you to read, since you're new to oc:

its a 65nm so hes good voltage wise.

Throw up 2.8 ghz, use 1.45v ram at 1:1 or as close to stock speeds as you can to start.

See of that posts, it should.

so to get 2.8 ghz leave CPUm at 10x and increase FSB to 1120? so 1120 divided by 4= 280x10= 2.8 ghz.
i was thinking overclocking to at least 2.5 ghz, so that would mean id have to take 250x4=1000mhz fsb. is that right?

i overclocked my CPU to 2.75 ghz but i have 2 questions, first of all, in this picture it says E2180@2.0ghz, 2.75ghz. are the cores running at different clocks?
(http://img115.imageshack.us/img115/2205/275vh4.png) (http://imageshack.us)

and when i try to set the ram to 1:1 i have to set my FSB to linked mode, and this will cause my computer to not boot. when i set the mode to unlinked and set the mem mhz to 800 and reboot, it posts but i get a strange ratio.
(http://img115.imageshack.us/img115/4560/1116oz4.png) (http://imageshack.us)

i left the voltage on auto, its at 1.344v on CPU-z
so are both cores running at 2.75 or did i screw something up? and whats going on with my ram.
any help on this would be appreciated.

ok set the voltage , do not auto it.

Set it at 1.45

set it at 300x10

leave the ram alone for now.

and lets see some core temp screens, under orthos load.

i dont have orthos nor do i know how to use it =P

ok, when i up the FSB to 1200 mhz for a 3.0 ghz core and adjust the Vcore to 1.45v like you said, my windows boot screen freezes. i restart and changed everything back to the previous settings and it booted. suggestions?

1.48v

whats the ram set at when you up it to 300x10?

how is your ram set, in ratios? or manually set?

the ram isnt in ratios unless i link it. and i cant get into windows with a 3.0 ghz speed to see what the ratio is with CPU-z. if i link it i can set the ratio as 1:1 but that gives me  BSOD.

what does that 1:1 speed give ya?

My E2160 in my sis's rig that I built is oc'd to 3.0GHZ on stock. I have a nForce 680, interface with the BIOS is so smooth. You should not have to raise the VCORE very much, if at all.

whenever i set the FSB to 1200 for the CPU my boot screen freezes. one time it didnt even POST. so i had to reset the CMOS. its back up again at 2.75ghz so im not gonna push it anymore. as far as the ram, i dont know what the hell is going on there. 11:16 400 mhz wtf?

ok, i think ive figured out whats going on with my ram. since i set the FSB to Unlinked the Ratio will be set to Auto by default. since my OC on the FSB will also OC the ram, simple math can show me what the ram is running at. i set the Memory FSB to 800 MHZ and the CPU FSB is 1100mhz. the ratio is 11:16=x:1100. if you solve for X then the ram is running at 756.25 mhz. i also changed my Primary video adapter as PCI-e instead of PCI.
