ok, im no nvidia fan boy, however............

yes the card trumps the 280 in SOME tests(why not all if its so badass?) and beats the 9800 gx2 in some tests. However why would anyone want this card at $500+ when you can get a 9800gx2 @ $285 and get within 20% range of the 4870x2?

Makes no sense, unless you just have money to blow. And no the prices wont drop, because theres nothing to compete with it, why would ATI drop the prices, when there is nothing that can compete with the card?

I would like to see that if I spend $500+ that it beats every card, in every test. ESP for this much hype

the card manhandles the 9800gx2 with beta drivers. i will put my faith in the HWC review... look at high res. the gtx 280 >/= 9800gx2 and the 4870x2 just assrapes it at anything over 1920x1200....

oh goddd... the nvidia peanut gallery chimes in :P

ok, here we go. the 9800gx2 is a VERY powerful card.. VERY. equal to the gtx 280 give or take, depending on the game/settings etc. drivers and support have been shaky, as it was with the 7950gx2. its EOL, they're not producing it anymore since they have the GTX series now. they're dumping the stock, and rightfully so. dont get me wrong, I almost bought a 9800gx2 at $275, good deal. Point is, now, its gtx 260/280, hd4850/4870/4870x2... those are the 5 cards now, anything else is old tech.

what is the 4870x2 competing against? the gtx 280.. i read a few of the reviews.. same old. at low res, virtually no difference.. both are bottlenecked by the cpu... as you gradually crank up the res and settings, the 4870x2 gradually pulls away. its MEANT for high res, and unless u have 24 inch + you should NOT buy it.

fact of the matter is, its the TOP card, and a decent price tag.

i know what you mean.  i used to love nvidia, but i will tell you my 4850 blows any nvidia i had out of the water.  this card is great.  looking at getting another one.  what do you guys think i should get first, another card or another mb.  my mb only does 16x\4x crossfire.  i has seen people getting good scores with this though.

i wouldnt go 16/4 CF... although a single 4850 rapes cod4 so i would just stick with that.. unless youre going to be playing something else alot...

lol look at hardwarecanucks CoD4 page. OWNAGE

who cares at an unreasonable res? my 24" WS plays at 1900x1200 anything above that means nothing, im not playing on a 56" ws plasma, or lcd, so it makes no difference.

$275 for a card that will max the res of 90% of gamers is the best bang for the buck. period.

I give ATI its props I really do. It looks and sounds like a beast.

actually your wrong.. the 4850's are $150 a pop. so for about $15 more you can crossfire them and rape the 9800gx2.. check benches 4850's in CF rapes any single card minus the 4870x2. and unlike sli, it doesnt require some shanty ass nvidia chipset. 90% of ppl have intel boards.. and almost all new ones do 8x/8x CF.

4850 in crossfire > GTX 280. 4870 in crossfire PWNS GTX 280, 4870x2 in crossfire is... uber pwnage...

Sure it is and nor is he saying that the new ATI cards suck, there is just way too much hype ...

yea i get it. im not saying ati has suddenly come back and is now king. in fact, nvidia's cards have been just as good, or even better. the difference is ati came in and beat them hard with the price. the 4850 is a better than the 9800gtx and a lot more affordable... the 4870 is better than the 260, and a lot more affordable... the 4870x2 is a heck of a lot better than the 280, and only slightly more. its not that the tech is better, its that the price is better.. all nvidia has to do is drop the prices and suddenly its to square one.

the guy int hat review is full of shit i have to say.  i have a 4850, and i think with the same processor would do better than johnnys 9800gtx overclocked even.  i was getting high 14'2 easy with one card.  also he says the card runs hot.  that is cause the fan is set low.  i have mine at 50% which is very quiet and keeps it 55 degrees@load.  about 43 idle, and if you put it at 100% (which is loud as hell) it will run at about 32-34 degrees.  that is cool to me for a gpu on air. lol.  i dont follow the hype, because i used to be all about nvidia.  but decided to try the ati agian, and i am glad that i did.  also i think crossfire adds more than sli by just a little.
