Has anyone done this and if so can you give me some feedback as to how it affected the performance of the computer.  In other words, was the computer slower than before because there were two operating systems installed.

i have no insight on this. but i do believe you can only run windows if its a newer mac with a c2d processor.i dont believe windows will run on the G5 or any of the older mac processors.

I have tried "bootcamp" myself and it is asf ast as any normal windows machine, no slowdowns whatsoever. I haven't set it up myself though but will be doing one for a friend soon...

how about gaming.  any of you play cod2 or cod4 or any other graphic intense games?  im thinking about buying a macbook pro (intel core 2 duo 2.5ghz and 2 gb ram) and upgrading the graphics card from the geforce 8600gt to the geforce 8800gt.  im sure it will play nice but its still a mac, a computer thats not known for gaming.

well you know what youre gonna get from me. overpriced POS. i wouldnt buy a mac. youre paying double for essentially an apple logo. you can get a nice intel laptop, 17 HD widescreen, blu-ray player, 9600m (i think) 4gb ram, t8xxx series ( i believe 45nm) etc etc for a little over $1000. Macbook pro, get ready to dish out 2000+

only thing is i wanted to get a mac so i could run a program that is currently only available on osx.  so i figured id get a mac with the following specs (which are pretty damn good): core 2 duo 2.5ghz, 2gb ram, geforce 8800gt, 250gb hd, 17" widescreen, and the best of both worlds by dual booting both windows vista and osx.  but please by all means u got a link for that dream computer you just described for $1000 lol.  o and one more good thing about the mac laptops, the parts like the video cards can be upgraded

the one i was talking about has blu-ray, its 9500m (which will run cod4 high) and T8100 (45nm i think)

Macs are solid laptops specially mac book pros.. they are sleek and fast and like you said Army you can dual boot and have the best of both worlds. I love the two finger scrolling and the awesome back lit keyboard. If you get the new mac book pros you will get all the iphone finger gestures on the trackpad.

Before anyone suggests installing osx on a pc stop right there because even if you do install it you won't get proper hardware acceleration before osx is really picky about the hardware and this is not a desktop that you can customize the components.

Mind you, when vista first came out mac book pro was the best performing laptop out there to run it (source: PC MAG)

There's more than one way to skin a cat... You can run OSX86 on an Intel laptop just fine.  It can easily be done if you have the right hardware.  A friend of mine dual-boots Vista & OSX86 in his Dell Laptop (C2D, don't know the model)   He used the latest patched Leopard image and followed a walkthrough on the Insanelymac forums.  He did have to patch the sound and bluetooth to get them to work but now everything works perfectly(sleep, ports, jacks). You can also look at the list supported hardware and build your own OSX86 compatible PC, if you don't NEED a laptop and all you want OSX is to run the one program.  Or you can buy an already built Hackintosh http://www.psystar.com/openmac_osx86_compatible.html 

Mac book pros are sweet machines(my brother has one), if you have the money just get it.  For a lot of people the money saved is not worth the hassles of working with hacked shit.

@ Ku@to: That was my point, OSX86 is pretty easy on a desktop PC "hackintosh" since you can use the motherboard that is most compatible and so forth for all the other components.

I was just trying to prove a point that its pretty painful on a laptop because you wil be limited to certain brands/hardware configurations and that might not be what you are looking for. I've done it before on my amd64 machine so I know how frustrating it can be learning unix console and its not for everyone.
