you're all wrong. it's just there cause IW is lazy, we see this every new game they make, always left behind unused code from a previous game. just laziness...not to mention i'm sure the host still uses those dvar's, the host did before when setting up a listen server in cod4/etc.

for nubs like me  :-[ , who dont know how to instal MW2 without using steam......... :P

1. Close Steam (File > Exit).
2. Go to the Start button and select Run (XP) or type Run in the Search box and choose Run from the list (Vista).
3. In the Run window type:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:

Replace E: with the CD/DVD drive you are installing from if is not correct.
Replace C:\Program Files\Steam if your Steam installation is not in the default location.

4. Press OK. Your installation should continue from the disc.

i waited, and waited, didnt know shit about steam, got 2 discs and why the hell isnt MW2 installing from the disc, so after 2 hours i googled, and found out that there was a way to instal it straight from the disc  ;D ;D ;D ;D

if you use dirt's way to install then use the skidrow crack you're good.

if you download skidrow's release all you have to do is install, they use a custom installer vs the steam bullshit.

Downloaded Call.of.Duty.Modern.Warfare.2.STEAM.ENGLISH

This is what I did:

1. Use Phoenix 1.2 Final
2. Go to Instruments -> Update ContentDescriptionRecord - Internet
3. Then Instruments -> SID Unpacker
4. There: Scan a SIM File -> Locate your DVD (Mounted Disk1.iso):

"scan a SIM-file", You?ll find modernwarfare2 content.gcf
modernwarfare2English.gcf


5. "Select all" and after that select "Unpack"
6. Choose your directory and extract

It will ask cd2 after a while. After it has finished, copy over SKiDROWS crack files. And you are good to go. ;)

Yeah not bad. Very very short though! Was just getting into it and it ends! Glad I didn't pay for it cause I would be really pissed if it cost me so much money for just over 5hrs of single player. :( Would've taken a lot shorter than this but didn't just rush through it. Seen other people have done it in just over 3hrs. Thats not good for a full price game.

Yeah took me 4 hours and thats with the 2 year old hangin off me.
Wicked graphics but im glad i didnt pay $60 for it.
I rushed thru most of it, prob do it again on a harder setting tho, because it is a cool game......
