thinking about crossfire...

board: p35-ds3p, it says this:

"Ultimate graphics performance with dual PCI-E x16 interface"

then is says this:

"2 PCI Express X16 slot(x16, x4)"


So is one slot x16, and one x4? or are they dual x16? If I were to crossfire, (and one is x4) would there be any point?

It means that with one card its 16X but with 2 in crossfire its 4x. Not really much performance hit even if it was only at 4. They still havent even came near using the full 8x lanes yet..

well both slots are 16X each, but like i said once another card is inserted it drops to 4x/8x.

not true, I havnt looked at werths board before, BUT

most new boards support dual x16 pcie at 16x.

For instance, my 680i, i can run to 8800's at 16x each.

Yes the 680's can, but with his board, it does not have the full 16x pipes for the second slot.

IMHO Itll be fine, you wont notice anything different.

Like i said on my previous post, the still havent even reached the full capacity of 8X PCI E yet.

Just watch out for some of them games that dont like SLI/Crossfire. Like Crysis (patch coming soon supposable) Dunno bout UT3 yet. Theres a couple games out there, but for the most part youll see a nice increase of performance.

SLI/ Crossfire is a waste of money IMO.

I used to have SLI, 2 7800gt's in SLI

went to one 8800 from there, and the 8800 whipped up in the 7800's

and its the worst 8800 in the lineup.

save the money, wait for the next "big thing" in video cards.

apparently crossfire with the new ones are supposed to be nice, ive seen some nice test, and ive seen some bad ones...
two 3870's beat a gtx in pretty much all tests...

im curious tho, i think some ppl had problems with crossfire/64bit/vista/shitty ati drivers.

i dunno just thinking about it... this one servers me pretty damn well and oc's pretty well
