Setup my new PC, had a few games of CoD2 but everytime I play ..... after a couple of maps I always get the error:

DirectX has encountered an unrecoverable error

And I get kicked to desktop.

I am still using XP, got the latest drivers for:
Soundcard
8800gts
motherboard

I have never had this error with CoD2 before ..... any ideas?

Did you try dxdiag to test if directx is installed properly. If not try this:
Go to start >> run >> type DXDIAG then press enter.
Go through all the tests, and see if it gives u any errors under the "Notes" field. 

What directx rendering mode are you using (7.0 or 9.0) ?
Your card kicks ass so ure probably using 9, maybe try 7 and see if you still get the error.

No errors in DXDIAG,

I am using DX 9 but I will try 7 and let you know what happens.

i've had the same problem with that, and i was talking with digitalkiller and he said to shut down xfire, cause when you reinstald COD2 you've probeply had xfire on so thats what you can try.....
